Earth Day is one of the most important days of the year... so join us at Cafe Zippy as we celebrate our environment and raise money for Cocoon House and Cafe Zippy Cooperative.
It's official - Cafe Zippy Co-op exists! Now we have to raise money to cover our legal fees as we move to buy out Cafe Zippy LLC and complete the transition. As a member-owned cooperative business Cafe Zippy will strive to nurture inter-community relationships and address needs in the community that matter. This is why we have chosen to donate 25% of our raised funds to Cocoon House, an important nonprofit organization that provides shelter and services to at-risk and homeless youth in the community.
WAlk the Earth will feature several awesome activities! Read below for more info.
**4:00PM - No-Sew T-Shirt Reusable Shopping Totes**
Participants can join us as we turn old t-shirts into reusable shopping bag totes! A no-sew project for all ages. We will have a limited supply of t-shirts to give out, so please bring your own if you plan on making more than one bag.
**5:00PM - Seth Hall's Vertical Garden Demo & Plant Sale and Seed Swap**
Seth Hall from Urban Farming Supply Co will be presenting on the basics of urban gardening and will demonstrate how to make your own vertical indoor garden as he completes the construction of Zippy's own wall garden which will be featured inside the cafe! Seth will have his farming supplies up for sale beside plants from Go Natives! Nursery in Shoreline.
Guests are also encouraged to engage in our plant & seed swap - bring your unwanted seeds and plants and spread the joy of gardening with each other!
**6:30PM - Dirty Sock Contest**
Later in the evening we will be hosting our dirty sock contest! Think your car is clean because you passed emissions last year? Put your money where your mouth is! The contest is as follows: Participants pay $3 to sign up their car. At the time of the contest a white sock will be placed over participating exhaust pipes. Owners will then start their cars and idle the engine for 30 seconds. Whoever has the dirtiest and cleanest socks will win a free car wash!
**7:00PM - Closing Yoga**
Led by instructor Bernie Connolly to bring a relaxing closure to our event. Bernie teaches yoga comprised of active and relaxing moves and poses which are known to help reduce stress, tension, and pain.
**The full Cafe Zippy menu will be available for purchase throughout the entirety of the event. Alcohol available for purchase with valid ID.**
Cocoon House is a very special local organization that has been serving homeless and at-risk youth in Everett for over 20 years. We are proud to announce that 25% of the money raised from WAlk the Earth will be donated to Cocoon House. We feel that the cause Cocoon House represents is one that should not be ignored - our youth are our future, and when our youth struggle our future struggles as well. Cafe Zippy Co-op will be investing in the future by reaching out to give vocational support and employment opportunities to the same at-risk youth that Cocoon House serves.
